Description
OXYGEN PRODUCTION SYSTEMS
Oxygen is produced from clean, dry, pressurized air using a separation process based on the principle of selective adsorption. Air is passed through a bed of Zeolite Molecular Sieve, which has a very high affinity for nitrogen. Zeolite contains an infinite number of micro-pores and traps the adsorbed nitrogen molecules in these pores.
Before this process takes place, the compressed air must be purified by passing through a Pre-Filter to remove all contaminants, solids, condensed liquids, and oil and water vapors. Oil Removal Filter (not required if an oil-free compressor is used) and Air Dryer.
The dry and oil-free air from the Air Dryer is stored in a Dry Air Receiver before entering the PSA System. This system contains two adsorbents filled with ZMS, where moisture and nitrogen are adsorbed and the product gas (dry oxygen) exits and passes to the Oxygen Swing Vessel. In the PSA system, while one adsorbent is in the production cycle, the other is regenerated (desorbed) by depressurization.
The two adsorbers continue to automatically switch from adsorption to desorption via a series of timers. The pressure in the adsorbers varies from atmospheric pressure to line pressure, hence this process is known as Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA).
